Outcome benchmarks are published reference values that OrthoMate compares your patients' PROM scores against. Once set up, they appear in Analytics → PROMs analytics (Mean score vs benchmark) and in the PROMs results section of each patient record.
Set them up under PROMs → PROMs Settings, in the Outcome benchmarks section at the top of the page.
Only verified benchmark revisions appear in reports and charts. If a value is left blank, that comparison isn't shown.
What each value means
- MIC (minimum change) — the smallest improvement from before surgery that is considered meaningful. Enter it as a positive number in the direction of improvement.
- PASS (acceptable score) — an absolute score on the instrument that is considered an acceptable outcome.
- AOANJRR registry mean — the average score reported by the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry. This is available for the 6-month timepoint only.
The page shows the score range for the instrument you've chosen and whether a higher or lower score is better.
Adding a benchmark
- Under New revision, optionally choose a reference draft from Start from a supplied reference draft. This fills in a starting point for common instruments such as the Oxford scores, EQ-5D-5L and the Forgotten Joint Score-12. Check every value against the original source before saving.
- Choose the Joint (hip, knee or shoulder).
- Choose the Scored instrument.
- Choose the Procedure, or leave it as All procedures for this joint.
- Choose the Post-operative timepoint (3 months / 12 weeks, 6 months or 12 months).
- Enter the MIC, PASS and, for 6 months, the AOANJRR registry mean. Leave any value blank if you don't want that comparison shown.
- In Source, population and verification notes, record where the values came from: the publication, year, procedure and patient population, scoring or tariff version, and a DOI or URL. This reference appears in report footnotes.
- Leave Revision action as Add or replace a benchmark.
- Tick the box to confirm you have verified the values against the full source and that they apply to this instrument, population and scoring version.
- Click Save draft revision.
Changing or removing a benchmark
To change a benchmark, add a new revision for the same joint, instrument, procedure and timepoint. To stop a benchmark being used, choose Withdraw this benchmark under Revision action and save.
Previous revisions are kept in the Benchmark history table, which shows each benchmark's instrument, timepoint, values, revision number and status.
